Dreams Coming Together

A lot has happened on the train. We have all gotten to know each other a lot more every day. Without exception we have gotten along fabulously and bonded. Even with a 7 hour train delay out of LA to San Antonio and being 3 hours behind schedule to Chicago we are in high spirits.

As twelve Dreamers from the Bay Area in California joined us in Los Angeles and the 26 of us all then went on to Tucson it has been a great ride. In Tucson we picked up Doris’ grandchildren Desiree and Ashley who are a bundle of energy and joy on the trip. Aside from making us laugh they remind us of why we are on this journey. Also in Arizona we picked up others including Antonio an Iraqi Soccer player who has defected to the US and is anxiously looking forward to his citizenship and reuniting with his wife still in Iraq. He has gotten along particularly well with Italian Father Giovanni as they talk about Soccer, or as they say, ‘futbol.’

Our Native American brother Mike also joined us and reminds us that while we may all be immigrants, we actually are not all immigrants. However, what we all still have our the dreams we share. Brother Mike has told me he feels he has met his dreams and now looks to help out on his Reservation in Arizona by providing water to migrants in the dessert so they can live to see another day and take another shot at their dreams.

In San Antonio we received a warm welcome from many guests. We are thankful to those who brought us a needed snack and rest while others joined us. In San Antonio we said good bye to Harris Luu who was proudly off to see the graduation at the High School where he is an Assistant Principle. It was great the night before to talk school shop with him and Cal State LA Freshman Fermin who credits much of his success to not only California’s AB540 but also to teachers that care, and honestly a change of school and environment.

To see Fermin and Harris talk about school, hopes and opportunity was great. I admire Harris and his strong belief that the world is a giant opportunity for Youth to succeed and fulfill their dreams, if only we as adults open those doors, keep them open and work hard to make opportunity greater.

In a sense we are also talking about keeping opportunity open and making the door wider. In our case as the Dreamers coming Across America we have the added benefit of being of great spirit, value, and drive for this nation. As we head closer and closer to our destination you will hear from all of the dreamers. In fact, you can read the bios and see the videos. As you learn about us, tell us about yourself and perhaps we can all achieve our dreams.

If you choose to do the silly racist and repetitive blogs then you simply show your ignorance and more importantly give us the heads up to simply ignore you.
